COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 9, 2007) - On Thursday evening, March 8, 2007, PBR bull rider, Lee Akin (Weatherford, Okla.) was severely injured during a PRCA event in Montgomery, Alabama when a bull stepped on his head following his ride. He was treated at the scene and taken to Baptist South hospital's intensive care unit for further examination, where doctors determined he had a traumatic brain injury. He underwent successful neurosurgery and is currently in an induced coma in the critical care unit in critical condition. An induced coma with this severe of an injury is very common and it allows the body to relax and recover more quickly.

Akin was a fixture on the PBR’s Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler from 2002 to 2006 and had four BFTS event wins to his credit. He and his wife, Mary, welcomed a daughter, Jada Marie, on September 21, 2006.

Deb Haverland	What a tragic accident. Please know that our prayers are with you all. Just to let you know what a tremendous role model you have been for my grandson. Since he was just under 2 years old, he made up his mind he was going to be a bullrider. (Of course I discouraged it) He is now almost 7 and he still "bullrides" in the air at least once a day. He still insists on wearing his chaps and "vest" (an old lifejacket) He would wear this everywhere, but we have put a limit...not at church (unless the dress is western) and school won't allow it (unless it is western day or halloween or whenever he can talk them into it.) We go to every rodeo for miles around and even when from Texas to NJ for vacation, but not without attending a rodeo in NJ. To put all of this together...you have been what my grandson has vowed to be. He makes perfect grades in school..this sport is not for "dummies" God bless you...a proud Nana

In the lead, all the other horses trampled on top of him. My dad's head was split wide open in the back from one ear to the other. He was in a coma for 17 days, with many not knowing if he would live or die. Needless to say, he did make it and we thank God for that each day. Prayer changes things, and I know that Lee will be ok. Lori Williams, White Post, VA	Dear Lee, I just want to let you know you CAN and WILL come back from this injury! I've 'been there, done that'. I was in a car accident where I broke a telephone pole, in half, literally, with the left side of my head and the side of my SUV. Was fortunate to be rushed to hospital, had the surgery on my head (epidural hematoma), and was in the hospital for quite a while. You will get better everyday. Really. Even if you think you aren't improving fast enough, you ARE. And, don't be concerned if you get tired easily, or sleep a lot more than usual. This is ok. and this will pass. and yes, you will get your normal appetite back after a while, if you don't have it now, or can't eat as much as you did before. I lived on chocolate milk and pie while in rehab. It's ok. this will pass. My accident was 7 years ago. Today no one could ever tell I was in such a horrific accident. So, try to be patient (which is the HARDEST part), and you will recover. and if you have any concerns or questions, talk to your neurosurgeon and try to find some of "us", the traumatic brain injury people. We've been through this, and I found it helps to talk to people who have been there. You find you're NOT crazy and you're NOT alone. And realize, there are TONS of us out here, saying a prayer for you. Everybodys on your side, pulling for you. That is a great feeling! Hang tough! My best wishes for you. Lori

Kindra Hossack	A few years ago We were standing in line at New York New York in LAs Vegas waiting to ride the Roller Coaster. I was so nervous,. Lee was standing behind me and I struck up a conversation with him. I asked hime which bull he had drawn for that night at the NFR. He very politely told me the name of the bull and then said"well I'm not really worried about the bull as much as I am about this roller coaster ride." Then I was really nervous!! JOAN - PORT ORCHARD, WA	My spirit greived when hearing of Lee's injury. I have been a long time PBR fan and am sadden each time I hear of a serious injury. The doctors/nurses are giving Lee the best care possible. Now it's time for the greatest healer of all to take over - our Heavenly Father. Through your faith & the prayers of your fans God will work a miracle. Soon Jada your Daddy will be holding you in his arms once again and Mary you will be hearing Lee tell you how much he loves you.
